2025 SLCC Camp Counsellor
Day Camp Counsellor (3 full time positions - based on successful grant funding and registration needs)
Responsibilities:
- Instruct entry level recreational paddling skills and techniques to children age 6-12 in a small day camp setting in a fun creative and systematic manner;
- Plan, organize and execute creative and creative age-appropriate outdoor activities in an inclusive safe environment; Camp operates outside.
- Supervise participants at all times while on water and on land;
- Work as a team with other instructors to achieve common goals;
- Complete paddler achievement checklist;
- Follow the club’s policies regarding safe sport, fair play, inclusivity, diversity and equity;
- Serve as a positive youth role model/mentor to promote mental and physical health
Skills & Job Requirements
- ORCA Level 1 Flatwater or CKO Community Coaching course minimum experience recreational canoe paddling/ or tripping experience
- Must be willing to complete an online Boaters’ License course, if you don’t already have this certification.
- Provide a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (if over the age of 18) and complete an online Safe Sport course
- Minimum level 10 swimming ability & basic first aid certification and CPR (Preferred candidates are those with water safety certification)
- Experience attending outdoor-based overnight or day camp and enjoyment of the out-of-doors
June 30, 2025 - Aug 22, 2025 37.5 hours per week (no weekend hours required). (8 hours shifts will be scheduled daily between 730am and 500pm)
Salary depends on certification and experience
Must be between the age of 16-30 and eligible to work in Canada
